Is It All Worth It? (2)
Continuation from my previous post...
After reading the story, it got me thinking if this is what life is all about? The same cycle that everyone routinely follows.
The first phase of the cycle is being born, growing up, studying so that you could reach great heights some day. The whole while you are studying for exams, try to beat the other kid who got higher marks than you did last time.
The second phase of the cycle is finding a job trying to settle into the slow pace of the thing we call life, we get up in the morning to go to work and then come back home in the evening, almost everyday.
The third phase of the cycle is getting married and then having kids, still you get up early in the morning to go to work so that you could support your family. Sometimes disputes arise between your spouse and then before you know your children have married.
the fourth phase is where you retire, have grandchildren and try to live the rest of your life at a very slow pace and eventually you die.
Just like that I have predicted how you are going to spend this lifetime.
Sometimes I, myself, wonder if this is really how I want to spend the rest of my life and somehow looking at the future, it's like it has been etched on stone, predictable.
I think that sometimes that we've advanced so much so that we often forget to live life. Enjoy the very thing that enables us to do what we want.
I think the flaw is that we let society dictate to us how we should spend the rest of our lives and not to mention money plays a vital role in it. We are led to think that in order to live a decent life we need to have this mundane cycle in life which we cannot break away from.
However, this is somewhat true because in order to live a decent life, get what you want we need money and in order to get money you need to have a career and in order to have a career we have to study.
But is that the way you want to spend your life?
like a hamster on a wheel?
Sometimes I find great joy in the simple things in life, like actually feeling the afternoon sun on your skin or the wind blowing in your face. Somehow, I find these to make me feel content.
If I had the choice between living on a remote island or living in a populous city, I would definitely chose the former. The reason for this being that I would then be able to live life on my terms and not the terms dictated by anyone else.
However, as much as I want to break away from the cycle I'm bound by invisible chains. Sometimes too afraid to venture into something that I don't know.
I never want life to pass me by and I'm going to make sure that it won't.
Take time to enjoy life, if you are held back by your occupation then quit and find something else which would allow you to earn and also do what you want.
Never let there be room for regret in life, live your life because it's worth so much.
