A Late Night Rant
Right now it's 11:26 pm in the paradise island which is called Sri Lanka.
So I got my results the other day.
My college has the habit of posting the result via registered post so that even parents can find out the results.
Yeah I know it sucks and if anyone is going through the same thing out there you have my deepest sympathies, I know how it hurts. I think it's safe to say that when we grow up and enter university/college we are mature enough to have results be released without our parents having to find out what our results actually are. Because in all reality they are very fragile (which makes me wonder why a law suit has not been brought against such institutions) and just imagine them opening a letter which states that their son/daughter has failed (which is not so in my case) and there is that slight possibility (no matter how small) that they could have a heart attack or slip into a coma. But noooo, these institutions don't take that into consideration.
Now first thing that I must say is that in my household there is no concept of privacy, if a letter has been addressed to me (which in this case it was) my parents would open it. It might seem to other people to be gross violation of my privacy but this sort of thing is a day to day occurrence.
Yes, yes I know what your arguments are, saying that I have my rights which are being infringed upon etc etc. However, none of these points are relevant when it comes to debating with parents cause the first and only thing that they say is...
"We made you, so we have every right to check the mail which comes to this house addressed to you..."
No matter what sensible, intelligent, logical answers you say it would be irrelevant to them. So over time I have made the wiser choice of not saying anything against it.
But thankfully we are in the 21st century, the age of technology, so that anything important I have to do, I do via the internet.
For example, if I want to send a message there is facebook, if it's an official message there is e-mail. So the post mail that I receive is pretty much the irrelevant or low priority things such as bank statements, result, holiday cards etc.
And they say that we can't out smart our parents.
